FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Reproduction Specialty Group Partners with Goat Improvement Company to Advance U.S. Dairy Goat Genetics in Africa

Collaboration will introduce elite Alpine and Saanen genetics to Nigeria and Kenya through USLGE-supported genetic improvement and reproductive training programs.

LEBANON, Ind. — October 26, 2026 — Reproduction Specialty Group, Inc. (RSG) is pleased to announce a partnership with Goat Improvement Company (GIC) to support the introduction of high-performing U.S. dairy goat genetics into emerging international markets, beginning with Nigeria and Kenya.

Through this collaboration, RSG has selected GIC’s USA’s operations in Wisconsin to supply two elite dairy goat bucks—one Alpine and one Saanen—for semen collection and participation in genetic improvement initiatives supported by U.S. Livestock Genetics Export, Inc. (USLGE).

Both bucks are currently housed at RSG’s USDA-certified small ruminant export facility in Lebanon, Indiana, where they have successfully completed the required health testing. RSG will collect and freeze semen from these animals for planned genetic sampling programs in Nigeria and Kenya, while also producing additional inventory for potential future export opportunities in other countries seeking to improve dairy goat productivity.

Supporting Genetic Improvement in Nigeria and Kenya

The initial program is designed to introduce high-quality U.S. dairy goat genetics into local breeding populations, providing an opportunity to evaluate the performance, adaptability, and production potential of Alpine and Saanen genetics under African management and environmental conditions.

In Nigeria, the genetic sampling initiative will be coordinated through the University of Jos, which is working with RSG and USLGE to advance small ruminant genetic improvement and reproductive technologies.

In Kenya, the genetics will be utilized in collaboration with the Kenya Agricultural and Livestock Research Organization (KALRO), supporting efforts to evaluate improved dairy goat genetics and strengthen local breeding programs.

“We are thrilled to work with RSG to improve dairy goats and thereby farming communities around the world,” said Dirk-Jan van Horssen, General Manager of GIC USA.

The introduction of these genetics is intended to provide an initial foundation for evaluating reproductive performance, milk production potential, and adaptation to local conditions. Results from these programs may help guide future genetic selection, breeding strategies, and additional imports of U.S. livestock genetics.

Combining Genetics with Education and Technical Training

Beyond the introduction of genetic materials, RSG is actively supporting educational meetings and hands-on reproductive training in both Nigeria and Kenya as part of its USLGE international development activities.

These programs are designed to strengthen the capabilities of local veterinarians, researchers, livestock producers, and reproductive technicians through practical instruction in artificial insemination, laparoscopic artificial insemination (LAI), embryo transfer (ET), and reproductive management.

By combining access to superior genetics with the technical knowledge required to utilize them effectively, RSG and its partners aim to increase the adoption of advanced reproductive technologies and establish sustainable genetic improvement programs.

Building Long-Term Export Opportunities for U.S. Dairy Goat Genetics

The partnership with GIC USA represents another step in RSG’s expanding international genetics export strategy, which focuses on identifying and working with leading U.S. breeders and genetic suppliers to make high-performing livestock genetics available to international markets.

“One of our primary goals at RSG is to develop partnerships with leading U.S. genetic suppliers that allow us to introduce high-quality sheep and goat genetics into international markets,” said Doug Edge, Chief Strategy Officer of Reproduction Specialty Group. “Our collaboration with GIC USA provides an excellent opportunity to showcase the potential of U.S. dairy goat genetics in Africa. By introducing sample genetics and providing the reproductive training needed to utilize them, we can help our international partners evaluate performance under their local conditions and build the foundation for future genetic improvement and trade opportunities.”

RSG anticipates that the initial Alpine and Saanen semen collections will also support the development of a broader inventory of export-eligible dairy goat genetics. This inventory will position RSG and its genetic supply partners to respond to emerging demand from countries interested in improving milk production, reproductive efficiency, and overall dairy goat performance.
