lambs eating creep

When to Start Creep Feeding Young Lambs and Kids

Starting creep feeding early can give young lambs and kids the nutritional boost they need for optimal growth. Generally, it’s best to introduce creep feed at around 2–3 weeks of age.

Here’s why:

Early Adaptation: Young animals are naturally curious and will begin exploring new foods at this age. Offering creep feed helps them transition smoothly from milk to solid foods.

Boost Growth Rates: Creep feeding provides extra energy and nutrients, which supports rapid growth and muscle development—especially beneficial for young stock that are being prepped for show or market.

Health and Immunity: Good nutrition helps support immune system development, reducing stress at weaning and enhancing overall health.

Use a high-quality, palatable starter feed that’s easily digestible, and keep it fresh to encourage intake. By giving them a good start with creep feeding, you’re setting them up for strong, healthy growth!

Attention RSG Clients:

Please share your breeding results data with your Account Manager. In an effort to continue improving pregnancy rates, we need your ultrasound or blood testing data for your LAI and ET dates.

This information allows us to analyze the season’s results holistically across the nation. It helps us identify trends, evaluate the effects of weather and nutrition, and consider other variables that can contribute to the success of a breeding program.

Thank you for your collaboration!
