Early Gestation Nutrition for Sheep and Goats

Did you know that the first 30-50 days of gestation are critical for the health and development of your flock’s future offspring? During this period, it’s essential to provide balanced nutrition to support embryo development and prevent early losses.

  • Focus on High-Quality Forage: Ensure your ewes and does have access to nutrient-rich forage. This will provide the necessary energy and protein needed during early gestation.

  • Maintain Proper Hydration: Keep fresh, clean water available at all times. Hydration is key to overall health and the effectiveness of nutrient absorption.

  • Monitor Body Condition: Keep an eye on the body condition of your animals. Overfeeding or underfeeding during this period can lead to complications later in pregnancy. By prioritizing their nutrition early on, you’re setting the stage for a successful lambing and kidding season!

Do you have RSG Guardian in your barn?

Guardian on gate

This is an all-natural microbial-based product designed to be used in stalls, showbarns, or anywhere animals are housed. RSG Guardian contains microbes and metabolites that naturally break down the proteins, salts, and other materials found in urine and fecal matter that cause unpleasant odors such as ammonia. By competitive exclusion, RSG Guardian reduces the pathogen load in the environments it is applied to.

You can put this on existing bedding prior to add fresh or directly on surface like we did, post clean out. Barn smells fresh and clean after using this product.

How to Get Your State Premise & Flock ID

Attention, NEW sheep and goat breeders! If you’re just starting a breeding program, getting a State Premise ID and Flock ID is essential.

Here’s how you can do it:

Contact Your State Board of Animal Health (BOAH): Each state has its own process. Start by reaching out to your state’s animal health agency or department of agriculture.

Provide Necessary Information: You’ll need to provide details such as your farm’s location, type of livestock, and management practices. Make sure you have your farm’s address and any existing flock records handy.

Submit Your Application: Most states allow you to submit your application online, by mail, or sometimes even by phone. Be sure to ask about any fees or documentation required.

Receive Your ID Numbers: Once processed, you’ll receive a Premise ID for your farm location and a Flock ID specific to your animals. These are crucial for tracking disease, health records, and participating in industry programs.

Important Reminders

  • When scheduling to pick up recips or donors, we require a 48 hour notice and your premise ID.

  • Payments for all breeding services are due at time of service. Please do not leave a host site or RSG facility without making a payment.

  • To access your Genetics Inventory account, you must provide a credit card or ACH information to cover the monthly storage billing amount.

  • We ship frozen genetics on Monday’s, Tuesday’s and Wednesday’s only to avoid shippers sitting over the weekends.
